Prostaglandin levels in blood plasma during asthmatic attacks in patients with aspirin idiosyncrasy.

چکیده
It has been suggested that prostaglandin release is an important factor in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma. Aspirin inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, yet there are a group of patients, with aspirin idiosyncrasy, who develop asthma after ingestion of aspirin. We measured prostaglandin levels in seven individuals with this syndrome. Only trace amounts of PGE2 and PGF2a were found in plasma during asthmatic attacks provoked by aspirin.

Clinical Responses and Serum Prostaglandin
Clinical measurements and serum prostaglandin concenfratlons were monitored in three normal subjects, three asthmatic controls and five asthmatic patients with aspirin (ASA) idiosyncrasy before and after oral challenge with small doses of aspirin. Additionally, In the latter group, the effects of ASA were compared with those of piroxicam, a new nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent. Challenge wi...
متن کاملProstaglandin E2 systemic production in patients with asthma with and without aspirin hypersensitivity.
BACKGROUND A special regulatory role for prostaglandin E2 has been postulated in aspirin-induced asthma. A study was undertaken to investigate the effects of aspirin on the systemic production of prostaglandin E2 and cysteinyl leucotrienes in patients with asthma. METHODS The urinary concentrations were determined of two main prostaglandin E2 metabolites (13,14-dihydro-15keto-PGE2 using a com...
متن کاملThe effect of Zataria multiflora and carvacrol on wheezing, FEV1 and plasma levels of nitrite in asthmatic patients
Objective: The preventive effect of Zataria multiflora in animal models of asthma has been reported. In the present study, its effect on wheezing, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, and plasma nitrite (NO2-) in asthmatic patients was studied. Materials and Methods: In this study, forty asthmatic patients including 15 males and 25 females (aged 45.8±6.21 years) were randomly allocated in four...

This issue of Hypertension features an article by Imanishi and colleagues entitled "Aspirin Lowers Blood Pressure in Patients With Renovascular Hypertension." In their study, Imanishi and coworkers compared the effects of intravenously administered aspirin on arterial blood pressure, plasma renin activity in the renal veins and aorta, and plasma levels of prostaglandin E2 in the renal veins and...
